Twas the Night Before School...

Here we are again.  The night before the first day of school.  This will be my 11th year teaching, but my first year going to school on the first day post-op by 3 days.  On Thursday I started feeling kind of icky and by Friday afternoon was on my way to have my appendix removed.  It was a wild ride of a weekend, but thankfully Grandma Lynn was here to help out.  We spent the remainder of the weekend (after I was discharged Saturday morning) resting and gearing up (as much as I could) for the first day of school.  Not exactly how I had envisioned the weekend would play out, but that's life.  You don't get to plan it all.

As I sit here, starting to get a little anxious about that first day, I am a little thankful that I didn't have time this weekend to worry about it that first day of school all weekend long.  Even though it's my 11th year, I still get really nervous for the first day.  So, now I haven't had time to work it up too much in my mind and I just gotta go in there tomorrow and take it on.  I'm sure it will be awesome.

But it's not just my own first day of course...

It's Anna's first day of 1st grade.  Wow.  First grade sounds so "real school."  I know that Kindergarten seemed like a big step, and it is, but 1st grade to Anna is like, "Woah, this is no big deal, I've been here before."  And yet, I keep thinking, "Woah, this is going way too fast, we can't be already starting to count the grades with numbers, can we!?"  I feel like we are entering the big leagues.  I'm certain she will have a great year, but man, I'm also certain it will go really fast and before we know it we'll be into 2nd grade!  Yikes.  Slow down.  But this girl is ready to keep moving.  She knows her lunch number, bus number and shows absolutely no signs of any nerves for the first day of 1st grade.  She's pumped.

It's also Claire's 1st day of preschool (or at least we're counting it as her first day).  She's 3 years old and very ready for some serious preschool this year.  Sister wants to know everything Anna knows and will be determined to learn as much as she can this year.  She's getting better at writing her name and many letters and loves to play around with numbers.  I love our little math nerds :)

There are big things in store for this year for Claire.  She will eventually graduate to a booster seat in the car.  She says she is going to stop wearing diapers when she's 4.  She will have her pre-kindergarten screening at some point and we will start the big kid discussions.  She's not little anymore at all.

Wow.  Two big girls, growing, changing and moving forward.  They are awesome and make us very proud.  It's going to be exciting to see what the year brings for them and us.

Happy night before school!  We'll update tomorrow with first day of school pictures of course :)
