Today was Claire's big day to start school for this year. (Anna's first day is next Tuesday.) It's crazy to think that she's really a 4 year old going off to Pre-Kindergarten! I was certain that she just turned 2 about three weeks ago! But alas, this little 4 year old went off to school today with a lot of enthusiasm. She has been the only one of the three girls at home this summer who consistently says she's excited about school starting! (Anna and I are a little more partial to sleeping in.)
She had a great first day back; she was all smiles at drop off and pick up. Her teachers are Miss Trina and Miss Crystal. They are two wonderful women who will be great teachers for Claire; she is excited and ready to learn.
Claire has had a great summer, but was definitely looking forward to playing with her friends, and not bickering with her sister. She thrives on schedules and structure. She's excited to do more art projects, play with new toys, and learn more about letters and numbers.
This girl has grown so quickly. She's a sweet, sassy, spunky little thing. She knows her dimples can get her out of most trouble. She doesn't like anyone to tell her what to do (although she assures me that she always follows the rules and directions at school). She's a take-charge, be-the-boss kind of gal, but she can also be a cuddly little teddy Bear.
She got new school shoes and was really excited to wear them today. When she was picking them out, she wanted the ones that were "most like Anna's." She adores her big sister and wants to be just like her and keep up with her for everything. Many things at our house are 'not fair' if Anna gets to do it but Claire doesn't. (Both girls are learning the difference between fair and equal.)
I think the real reason Claire is excited to go to school is that she knows next year she gets to go to "Mom's School" and she will get to ride the bus. She cannot wait to ride the bus to my classroom. In fact, just the other day she told me that when she's a big kid and really goes to my school, she'll get to give me a hug every day. We'll see if that changes at all by 9th grade… For now, I'll enjoy the 4 year old hugs, they are so sweet!
Today is just the first day of a few 'firsts' coming up. Claire was proud to get to take the first 'first' picture.
We cannot wait to see how much growing and changing happens for this little girl over the next year of Pre-K.
