Big Girl Bed

Two days ago we hit the 22-month mark.

When asked how old she is, Claire's response is to hold up 2 fingers and say "Tdwo!"  (The d is purposeful there, it's not quite a 't' sound or just a 'd' sound, so we'll go with a blended 'td' sound.  I'm a math teacher, not a language teacher.)  She's already saying 2 even though we have 2 months left.  I suppose it's easier to keep it that way, rather than confuse her in a couple months with a new number.

And tonight, she is asleep on her big girl bed.

Where did our little baby Claire go?

Tonight was completely unplanned.  We were in her room after jammies and teeth brushing and decided to read books on her bed instead of Anna's.  When we finished, we asked if she wanted to sleep in the bed and she said, "Yeah."  So we tucked her in with lots of blankies, shut her gate (which has been on the door for months so it's not new to her) and closed her door and she is sleeping there now.  She whined a bit like she usually does at night, but did not get up out of bed once.  We're not sure she's made the connection that she would have that power to do so, or perhaps since she's been sleeping on a cot at daycare since she was 11 months old, it's just no big deal to her.

We'll see what tomorrow night brings, but we may just have a two big girls on our hands.

We will keep with the mattress on the floor for a while.  We have all of the lumber purchased to build her a bed like Anna; it's the next project on the list.

Little ClaireBear isn't so little anymore.
