Claire is one tough cookie and amazes us with her skills and strength daily.
She's only 22 months old (almost) and she can scooter like a 4 year old and whenever she falls off her scooter just says, "I dit it." (Translate: I'll get it.)
When Claire runs and falls, she gets right back up. Rarely are there any tears. She came home today with a hole in the knee of her jeans and a scuffed up knee underneath. It didn't seem to bother her, nor did she care, other than to point when asked and say, "Owie."
Well, today she did something pretty fierce. There were a couple tears, but only a couple and she only cried for less than 30 seconds. The girl deserved to cry for much longer if she wanted to.
Today she missed the last step coming down our front porch and when she tried to save it, lost it even more and went face first into a barberry bush that is off to the side of our steps. If you know what kind of a plant a barberry is, you'll know that it hurt. It's a thorny, mean little plant. When I'm wearing gloves it still pokes me when I pick up the chunks that I have cut off. It's brutal and I'm not a huge fan of it and now I'm more anti-barberry plants.
Sister took it in the face. I was right there, and was able to react instantly to pick her up out of it before she crawled around in it too much, but it had definitely already left it's mark. She got scratches everywhere on her face and a few little spots even drew blood. But as soon as I had picked her up and told Anna I was going to take her inside to clean her up, she was done being upset and more concerned by the fact that we were going to have to go inside; she wanted to stay outside.
We went in and cleaned up quickly. We came back out and told that plant, "No! No!" both in English and sign-language. We were not pleased.
But Claire was off again as soon as we were back outside. She wasn't going to let that big mean plant slow her down.
When we came in for jammies, teeth brushing, and bed, we put on some magic medicine to soothe the cuts and hopefully help them clear up quickly. I got this picture with my phone of the owies.
It looks pretty red here; it was right after meds. By the time we had stories done and Bed Time Math complete, the redness had already started to calm. Poor sister. She's going to look like she got in a fight. But obviously she won. She's one tough little peanut.
