Our annual camping trip this year was quite the adventure! As per tradition, we started out with our usual family selfie....
It seems to get harder every year to get everyone in the picture, as we keep bringing more stuff....but Anna's way back there if you look really hard!
Our first stop was McD's for breakfast, and then we headed north! First North Shore stop was for a little PB&J lunch by Superior.
Second stop...Palisade Head. This was the girls' first time seeing it!
The week was full of fishing adventures....the first was with Jason in his boat. They caught a few perch and a northern. Anna was very excited to eat them as a supper snack. Claire was more interested in the "snakes" they used for bait.
Of course we spent a lot of time throwing rocks. Our favorite beach was just as secluded and awesome this year as last.
Claire loved the rocks this year...collecting, throwing, finding.
Anna has always been a good rock hunter.
This year she was pretty excited to find some sea glass as well.
On the first half of our trip, we were blessed to have Aunt Kate along. She's always fun to have along and I think she enjoyed herself as well!
We did lots of hiking, climbing, bridge crossing and water wading.
All group selfie!
This was near a spot where Brian and I took a picture 10 years ago on our honeymoon. The downed tree in the background might be the exact same one!
Group shot at Tettaguchi.
We also enjoyed hiking up the Temperance River....Anna loved rock hopping.
Mommy, Daddy, and Anna hopped all the way out to this rock in the middle of the river. The picture doesn't do it justice, but it was in the middle....
Then Kate and I decided to rock hop out....
And on the way back we got a little stuck....
There was a bit of a leap, but I thought I could make it...
I didn't....
I got wet and a big bruise on my knee....Kate laughed....Brian photographed.
After our hiking adventure on Tuesday, we headed back to camp knowing we were in for some rain that night. We had no idea how much rain that would actually be.....
We have been rained on before, but nothing compared to this downpour that seemed to last about 18 hours.
Everything in our tent was wet and we were a bit miserable. We packed up our blankets and headed to the laundromat to get dry on Wednesday morning.
The rain left us with lake front on two sides of our campsite.
Wednesday was a wet day and was also the day our friends were coming to join us for the second half of our adventure. But, since we were soaked through and through and the rain still hadn't stopped, they had the great idea to find a dry place for the night.
So we met them at Sven and Ole's pizza and were thrilled to have a plan that didn't include wet blankets for the night.
Anna was thrilled to see Gracie!
Our digs for Wednesday night were pretty nice...a big step up from the wet tent.
Also included a nice view.
Thursday morning we checked out of Blue Fin Bay and headed to set up camp again.
Sadly Kate left us this day, but not without a group photo opp!
The day continued to be a little dreary, but we knew it couldn't/wouldn't last, so we made the best of it.
The little girls fished off the dock...
We made the best bacon and potatoes ever on a fire...
The girls hunted for sticks for our fire...
The girls "stirred the lake" by our site...
They nibbled on sweet corn cooked over the campfire...
We went to bed dry and happy. It was a great start to our second half.
On Friday morning the boys and Anna woke up really early to head out to their fishing charter. The little girls and the mom's stayed back and enjoyed a more quiet morning. We went out for breakfast and then spent some time at Temperance throwing rocks into Superior.
These two girls are so silly...best buddies!
Around 11, we headed over to the harbor to meet the fishermen and get a little ride on the boat.
Here they come!
Success!
The mom's and the little girls got to go out for a little boat ride too!
The dad's and their girls....the charter was their father's day present!
Anna was pretty pumped about the catch!
And everyone enjoyed watching them get filleted...
...even the seagulls.
These two....too cute.
The girls enjoyed spending more time at Crystal Beach hunting sea glass, throwing rocks, playing in the water, and picnic lunching. These three are too cute together!
Claire built some rock towers too!
We went on a hunt for a new waterfall.
And these three were kept busy running to fill the water jug over and over!
Relaxing by the fire.
Enjoying a camp cone!
Group shot from the second half of our journey.
The three girls and the butterfly that joined them for their picture.
It was a wonderful trip and was bookended with beautiful weather. Even though we spent the middle of the trip soaked, it was still an adventure and filled with great memories!
