We are a bit behind in blogging world, but tonight brings us back to memories of previous birthdays of our oldest child. This year she turns nine. The last of the single digits. We were talking about all of her previous birthday cakes, which has become quite a tradition for us...her first birthday cake was the only one I didn't make, a friend made it with a big fondant bow on the top. After that, we have had everything from dolphin cakes to princess cakes.
This girl has grown and changed quite a bit in nine years. This year, 3rd grade has been an especially exciting year. Anna has really come into her own as far as preferences, interests, habits, moods, etc. She's a big fan of all activities. She loves the social aspect of being with her friends. If it's a camp or activity, she wants to sign up for it. Girl Scouts, basketball, softball, Vet camp, swimming lessons, cooking class, volleyball...you name it, she'll try it and then want to keep doing it!
Anna is a big reader, her absolute favorite being Harry Potter. She is on book 5 and can hardly stand to wait a day for the next chapter. She also loves to read anything informational or entertaining. She loves books about animals, girls her age in cool activities, Weird but True books...if she can read it, she's reading it.
Anna is also our animal lover. She does an outstanding job of taking care of our pets whenever they need anything. Humphrey the guinea pig lives in her room and is treated to a daily feast before Anna gets her own breakfast. Geeg, our sweet collie, listens to Anna's commands and loves to go on walks with her. Lola sneaks into Anna's room at night for some pets and love once Geeg is in her kennel. This girl is all about the animals.
At school, Anna is finding that the learning is fun, the testing is not. She loves the days they have guest speakers, she learns new math, practices a new writing skill, or anything else new...but she is not fond of state testing...it's so boring according to her. Who can argue? This is her latest complaint.
This girl is pretty awesome. She is excited for summer break so she can hang out with her Mom. I can hardly stand it! Many people say this is a magical age and I believe they are right. I am going to continue to soak up every bit of the awesomeness that is Anna as she turns 9 and we embrace a new age and a new stage.
We are blessed to be her parents.
