Anna's first day of school outfit is all laid out and has been picked out since early August when she spotted the long purple skirt that twirls just right. Tomorrow she will head off to her first day of kindergarten and the girl is ready. It's hard to believe that she's ready to head off to school, real school, but at the same time, it really seems right. She's ready for a new challenge and we're ready to watch her continue to blossom.
Anna has gone to daycare for the past five years, so having her at school, the physically being there part, will be no different from our normal. The different will come with not being at the same school as her sister, with riding a bus after school, with remembering her lunch number so she can eat school lunch, with meeting new friends, with the new importance that school will hold in our house, with new challenges she will face in learning. So many new things will be experienced this year.
Tomorrow there may be tears shed, mostly by Mom, but they won't be tears of sadness. They will be tears of anticipation, tears for the adventures and challenges she will face. Tears of change.
The first five years went quickly, but we know that entering the "real world" of school, the years may start slipping by even faster.
Our wish for Anna as she begins Kindergarten:
Anna, as you head off to Kindergarten, hold your head high. Be brave. Be brave to try new things, meet new people. Be kind. Be kind to yourself as you make mistakes, be kind to your peers, be kind to your teachers. Be proud. Be proud of what you have accomplished and what you will accomplish. Be gentle. Treat others will compassion. Listen. Listen to your teachers, listen to your peers, listen to your heart. Be strong. Be strong and stand up for what you know is right. Be helpful. Help others in need. Help your teachers, help your peers, help your friends. Be curious. Ask questions often. Have fun and love life and all that you have to discover.
On to a new adventure...
