6 Years Old

This past week was full of celebration for our big girl turning 6.  Six feels like a big deal and yet, feels easier than the scary number8 and 10.  Five is such a milestone for starting big things in a little kids life, but 6 means they have already started those big things and have them figured out.  This week Anna seemed older; I think she was trying to be older.  I think she felt older.  And we feel pride.  Pride for her and all her awesomeness.  She has come a long ways in 6 years.  She's so confident and kind; passionate and dramatic.  She is her own person and has a deep desire for independence.  She's pretty much awesome, in her parents' opinions :)

So, this week was full of big stuff.  First off, her first musical.  Anna was a narrator in "The Little Red Hen" musical her Kindergarten class put on.  She practiced her lines, knew them by heart and delivered them with gusto.  Or something like that.  She was very excited and proud of her performance, and she and her whole class should be.  It was the best Kindergarten musical I have ever seen.

She let me take a selfie with the star afterwards.

The biggest anticipated day of this past week was on Friday.  May 15, 2015, the ultimate for palindrome week (5.15.15), Anna woke up thrilled to announce it was her day!  She had muffins for breakfast with candles and got to open her presents from us.  She got roller blades and gear.  She was excited, we even tried them out before heading to school.

On our way to school we stopped by the river to take a cute birthday picture too and to check out the bridge project by her school.  She was all decked out in her new gear from Auntie Pam.

She got dropped off at school and was greeted by friends saying "Happy Birthday!"  She was pretty excited.  She had ring pops to share with her friends and I stopped in for a surprise birthday lunch!  She didn't know I was coming; she was shocked.  I brought her favorite:  Subway sandwich, tuna with pickles and olives, and of course a cookie.

We took another selfie together and got her teacher photo bombing in the background and another teacher mid sentence.  I'm sure they would love to see this one :)

We celebrated that night with a stromboli supper with cousins Will and Thomas and Aunt Amy and Uncle Jason.  That was followed by lots of play time outside and cake and candles with the first round of grandparents that arrived Friday night.

Saturday morning we headed to the bowling alley for a fun morning of bowling with friends and family.  She had all of her little girl friends there to bowl with and they had a great time.  She was quoted after saying, "That was the best birthday party I ever had!"  It was a glorious weekend.  We were thrilled to celebrate this sweet six year old!

My friend Melissa caught Anna and her friend Lucy lookin' cute at the bowling alley.

Today, after everyone had headed home, we went to the park to try out the new skates with a little more space than our garage floor.  She rocked them!  She was skating like a pro...almost.  There may have been a few falls and a good bum hit, but she kept getting right back up, determined to master the skating!

Now we head into the last full 5 day week of school.  Summer is within reach, and we are ready to grab hold!
