Happy Thanksgiving. The Fisci had a good Thanksgiving this year. We got to celebrate early with family this year and were at home for actual Thanksgiving because Brian had to work on Friday. We made the most of the long weekend at home.
Thursday morning the girls got us up bright and early, which was just fine as we had a turkey to cook! Anna helped me get the turkey ready, mash the potatoes, mix the scalloped corn, and taste test everything. She loves to help cook; plus I think she wanted to make sure the cooking got done in a timely manner so we could get to her priority: decorating for Christmas! We enjoyed a feast around 12:00 and then after an attempted nap for each girl we got out the Christmas decor!
The tree went up, the lights were strung, the ornaments hung and all was well with our 4-year-old. She was thrilled. Claire was even into it a little. The girls enjoyed some hot chocolate and went to bed happy knowing Christmas is on it's way.
Friday the girls were up early again, so we took advantage of the opportunity to do a little shopping. We didn't try to wake up extra early, that's just normal at our house. Brian headed off to work and the girls and I headed to the Pancake House for an awesome breakfast. After we filled our bellies with pancakes we went on a shopping excursion. We started at the mall where we hit a few stores and then the girls enjoyed some time on the indoor mall play area. After that we headed to Menard's where there were at least one million customers. We almost bailed a couple times based on the number of people standing in the lines and the small amount of items in our cart, but we weren't in any hurry and took our sweet time browsing and eating snacks while we waited in line to check out. One last stop at Target of course, rounded off our shopping extravaganza. We headed home for a pizza night with Daddy.
Saturday brought more time at home, projects, final decorations being placed and more time together. We also headed out again for some more shopping and experienced a side of Claire we hadn't yet. We were at the mall and Claire was 'that kid' who was running around like a turkey. Luckily the mall wasn't very busy and she was pretty free to run around, but she definitely found it entertaining to try to escape from Mommy and Daddy and squealed with joy when we caught her and then she squirmed to get away and do it all again. Anna was never the kid who ran around; she's always been right by our sides and rarely wanders far away. Just another difference between our two beautiful girls.
Sunday was jammy day, all day. Anna, Claire, and Mommy spent the entire day in our jammys, baked cookies, made sheperd's pie with our leftover turkey, and watched our new movie "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (the awesome TV version I grew up watching) that our Elf, Clyde, brought on Sunday morning when he showed up to keep an eye on everyone before Christmas!
The week brings lots of busy activities and more Christmas preparation and fun. Tonight we frosted the sugar cookies we made; well, Anna frosted, licked her fingers a lot and DUMPED sprinkles on each cookie with love. Claire ate the cookie that was put in front of her and licked the spoon with frosting and then dug into her bowl for more. Anna successfully frosted about 12 cookies, Claire none. Oh well, everyone enjoyed themselves and everyone ate plenty of frosting.
Pictures may come later this week of our Christmas decorating party as well as our cookie decorating fun.
