Tonight when Anna had her jammies on and teeth brushed, we were going in her room and she said, "Sleep, big girl bed?" We weren't really sure what she had said the first time, but after repeating it we figured it out and didn't know how to answer. What do we do? She's asking if she can sleep in that big girl bed, but is she ready to sleep in there all night? More importantly, are WE ready for her to sleep in there all night? We kind of looked at each other, spelled a few words back and forth, like g-a-t-e and m-o-v-e her back later. We decided in the end that if this is something she wants to do, then it could possibly make this a pretty easy transition. So we went for it. As we covered her up, kissed her goodnight and were closing the door she started to cry, like she always does, and we reminded her she's in a big girl bed, she doesn't have to cry in her big girl bed...so she stopped....until we closed the door.
She took a little longer to fall asleep, but she did....and she's still in her big girl bed. We didn't m-o-v-e her....but we did g-a-t-e her in. If she opens her door she will be greeted by the gate, which she can't undo...but I'm guessing by that point we will have heard her, but just in case...to put us at ease, she's gated in.
I'm not sure how soundly I'll sleep tonight, but I guess that's just part of having a big girl. We'll keep all our avid readers posted on this new milestone...I was really thinking this might not happen for a while...in fact I was just telling someone today that it might not happen until she's 3! I guess I jinxed myself!
