Weird blog title, I know. But I think it is fitting. We've had one of those weeks; I feel like we have had one of those months, but we'll just say week for now.
After numerous stomach bugs and colds and other fun, we had one full week where no one was sick. It was blissful. Then we were SO close to making that two weeks, but on Thursday the call came from daycare that Claire had a fever. You can read in our previous post how that day went, and we were left hopeful that Friday would bring bright eyes and no fevers...
Instead it brought scratched eyes and more fevers. What's that? Scratched eyes? Yes.
Claire woke up with her fever, but after her ibuprofen she was back to her mischievous self, crawling all over the place. At one point she crawled behind the chair, so I went and picked her up and I was standing there with her on my hip talking to her and telling her how she shouldn't go behind the chair where Mommy can't see her when she struck. Her adorable little chubby hand came up to my face (as it often does) and her finger sank into my eye socket with the sharp little finger nail on the end scraping across my eyeball. Her poking me in the eye or nose or mouth is a very normal occurrence but this time I knew it wasn't so normal. It hurt. I had to put Claire down so I could assess the situation. It felt like there was a small stick in my eye. After taking a shower, hoping it might rinse out whatever was in there and calling the eye doctor things were getting worse. Brian had to come home to drive me to the eye doctor because I couldn't keep both eyes open for long and knew that wouldn't be a great way to drive!
The verdict at the doctor was a scratch one forth of the way across my eye was causing all the pain. I ended up with a contact bandaid, prescription eye drops, and an appointment for the next morning to check for infection.
The rest of the day was a little rough for me. I was very light sensitive and had a baby with a fever. In the end, we survived it all. Today I still have my contact on, and will return to the doctor tomorrow to have it evaluated again.
Very lucky for us, we have a bit of a blizzard going on here so today is a snow day. We definitely welcomed an extra day of rest!
As for the rest of the weekend activities, we still had a great visit with Papa Randy and Grandma Lori. They came on Friday and it was nice to have the extra help with all the chaos at our house.
Saturday morning Grandma took me to my doctor appointment to be reassessed after 24 hours with the contact and on the way we hit a garage sale at the church where the girls go to daycare. We got a few steals that Anna enjoyed playing with....
A Noah's Ark tree for $2! She loves playing with it!
The eye doctor said I was starting to heal well and there is no infection, so I am on my way to recovery.
After our morning outing, we went out for lunch with everyone and had a few errands to run. We picked up my new bike from the bike shop. I am so excited to have a bike that actually fits my height! The girls and I will be spending a lot of time on the trail this summer! Good thing we got the bike trailer that holds two!
We also stopped and picked up a new tool for Daddy; he and grandpa put together his new scroll saw that afternoon. Lots of projects to come...
The rest of the weekend was spent relaxing, taking temperatures, and medicating.
In between medication times, Claire was a happy girl. She spent lots of time playing with toys and reading books.
Daddy and Anna planted some tomato seeds. Their peppers are already sprouting up and seem to be doing very well.
Some cuddles and lots of books were read with Grandma.
And Grandpa got to play with the Noah's Ark tree too! Poor Zebra lost a leg, but Dr. Daddy was able to save him.
Claire worked on her walking....when she was feeling good she was wild!
Claire's favorite toy right now....she loves to put the animals back down and gets a bit annoyed when you keep popping them back up.
Look at that long hair!
Hanging out with Mommy....she's on the side with Mommy's good eye :)
We did end up back at the doctor on Sunday to find out that an ear infection had started for Claire. So now she is on meds to take care of that and still a bit of Tylenol to help with her sore throat and teeth. Her fever did finally end Sunday morning, so that was a relief!
It was a nice weekend despite the ailments and we are so relieved to have one more day today to recover. This week brings more visitors from Iowa that we are excited to have and the last week of school before spring break!
Anna actually gets to go to work with me every day this week as one of the classes is doing a preschool for their final project this quarter and they need sample students. She's very excited to go to the big school and spend extra time with Mommy!
