The girls are all snuggles into their beds and have been since around 7:00. Back to early bedtimes and early mornings. Althoug, I would argue that we have not had late bedtimes and late sleep in mornings all summer; we have been up before 7:00 every day. Hopefully that will make this transition easier for everyone.
First day of school outfits are laid out; Anna decided it is a dress kind of day. Both girls have polka dot dresses and will have pictures taken in the morning, even though they have been going to school part time all summer. It is still such a special day. The start of a new year. The cool feeling of fall upon us. The countdown until next summer. New shoes. New clothes. It is exciting and fun. And as much as I do not want summer to end, I love the start of a school year. Meeting my new students (or ones I have had before). Buying new supplies. Reading through syllabi on the first day. It is a fresh start. I am blessed to have a job where you are guaranteed a fresh start every year...as well as a summer break.
This summer brought much fun to our family. Road trips, visits with friends, swimming, swinging, biking and more.
Claire has grown a lot this summer. She has become completely mobile since June. This weekend we have declared that she said her first deliberate word, "more" which sounds more like 'mo' and comes with the sign language for more. She has been saying mama, dada, nana, and a few others for a while, but inconsistantly. This weekend, she put it all together and uses 'more' frequently. More milk, more pasta, more tickles, more of anything. It is a huge change since the beginning of summer and thinking ahead to next summer, she will be miles beyond "more." Lots of growing will take place this year for our ClaireBear.
Anna is definitely not sitting by and letting her sister do all the growing. Anna has a huge interest in learning about everything. She is rocking at Bed Time Math (it is an app for kids, check it out!) and she loves to practice sight words and writing her letters and numbers. Anna would sit with flashcards and workbooks all day. She also learned how to pump her legs to swing herself, just today! No more need to have Mom or Dad push! Next year at this time we will be preparing for that first day of Kindergarten. I have already filled out and turned in her paperwork so she can go to the school district where I teach. Again, what changes and growth the next year will bring.
Happy night before the first day of school. It is always an exciting time. We will share pictures of our yearly photos on the front porch tomorrow.
