BBQ!

I realize that it has been an entire week since our last update.  And it's definitely not because we haven't been doing anything exciting!  This was a great 2nd official week of summer, full of fun and playing and adventure :) However, in all that fun, playing, and adventure, the camera was often missing...so there aren't many pictures documenting the week!  Sometimes we get too wrapped up in the fun to record it!

Our week in review:

Monday:  Shopping day with Anna and Mommy.  We ventured out on Monday after a lazy morning and did a little shopping.  We have some weddings coming up and Mommy needed new clothes so we spent some time wandering around the mall and trying things on in dressing rooms.  Anna was a really great shopper and I think this is only the beginning of many mother-daughter shopping trips!

Tuesday:  Mommy went to school and got a TON of stuff done.  All my boxes are now unpacked and I'm ready to refocus and start curriculum planning.  Anna had a great day at Sandra's house and loved playing with all the kids.

Wednesday:  Tot-Time!  Anna loves playing at tot-time.  Mommy loves chatting with other mommies at tot-time.  It's a win-win!  Wednesday is also Daddy's bowling night, so we surprised him and called him at 4:30 and said we were in the area and thought supper with him would be nice :) We went out for supper with him and another guy he bowls with and his wife.  It was a nice time and good that Anna got to see Daddy that day.  Sometimes on Wednesdays if she's still sleeping when he leaves, he doesn't see her all day because she's in bed by the time he gets home.  It was a fun night and a fun surprise!

Thursday:  Thursday was one of those days we should have had the camera and failed.  Anna had her friends Brecken and Oliver over to play and they had a good time.  The mommies had a good time too catching up and chatting about life as a mom and everything that entails.  It was a nice morning playdate and then Anna took a nice afternoon nap!

Friday:  This was semi-shopping day #2.  We had a few exchanges to make and a few other stops to do, so Anna and Mommy had two shopping trips this week!  Good times...especially the part where Anna threw up all over herself just as we were getting to the mall and when I went to the diaper bag for her extra outfit, I pulled out a pair of shorts and a skirt...apparently we didn't have a shirt.  This was a fun dilema...  We ended up in Target, still wearing our stinky shirt as cleaned up as it could possibly be with wet wipes, bought the first shirt in her size off the clearance rack and restarted our shopping trip.  I did debate on whether or not we should even shop, but Anna seemed to feel great after puking.  She didn't feel warm and she wasn't still fussy, so we decided to continue on our journey...after all she had already endured a 30 minute car ride to get there.  I am kind of wondering if she doesn't get a little car sick?  Or if she drank too much water that was jiggling around in her belly and caused her breakfast to come back up?  Either way it was an isolated incident and the rest of the day was great!

Saturday:  We had our first official playdate with a girl Anna's age!  We went to Maddie's house on Saturday morning to play.  Maddie is Kaela's daughter (a college friend of mommy) and was born in December.  She's not really Anna's age when you look at the difference in months, but when you look to the future, they will probably go to Kindergarten about the same time, so they are the same age.  It was a fun time, Maddie is a cutie and a very calm girl.  She just sat and watched Anna and took it all in.

Sunday:  We went to church on Sunday morning and Anna had a very hard time staying in the nursery for church.  Her usual favorite care provider, Nelly, wasn't there, so that made things a little more difficult.  In the end she did ok, but was pretty upset again when we picked her up, letting us know that, even though she played and had fun in the middle, she still didn't like that experience.  We're very confused as to why she struggles to much there, when at Sandra's it's no big deal.  We'll just keep at it and help her work though it!

After church we went to watch Brian bowl.  He meets some of his co-workers sometimes on Sunday to bowl.  Anna loves to run around the bowling alley and check out all the games!  She often tries to lift up the bowling balls, but obviously they are too heavy for her.  Her day will come!  She'll be bowling with daddy before we know it!

After bowling and lunch, we headed to the play structure nearby to play (we did this with Brecken a couple weeks ago).  Brian had never been, so Anna was ready to show him how it worked.  Anna LOVED it again.  This time we had the whole place to ourselves and we went all over, up and down, round and round, playing on the slides, with the balls, crawling, climbing, all of it.  She was very worn out after about an hour so we headed home.  We thought for sure this would mean a LONG afternoon nap.  We even kept her awake on the car ride home to ensure it.  Then we got home, tried to rock her, laid her in her crib, and she would NOT fall asleep.  She was ready to play at home now.  So, she played, and she played, and she played...and she did not nap all day long.  By suppertime she was falling asleep with cheese in her mouth.  She was in bed by 6:45 and didn't wake up until 6:45 this morning.  She was exhausted.

Overall, it was another great week of summer.  Lots of fun and lots of learning about Anna.  One thing to note...Anna does not share well, despite the good reports of sharing from Sandra at daycare.  Through watching her at tot-time and having her friends at our house, she's very possessive and isn't afraid to just push someone out of her way when she wants something.  Something we are definitely going to be working on!  It's quite funny to watch, although she's not nice, she doesn't yet have a clue or understand that  it's not polite, so it's kind of interesting to see her not hide her true feelings..."get out of that chair, I want it and I will pull you out myself if I have to..."

While we failed to take pictures at all the above activities, we did get some pictures last night of Anna when we were making supper.  We were BBQing chicken and Anna got out the BBQ gloves and put them on, went to the sliding glass door and apparently was ready to BBQ.

Daddy gave her the flipper too!

We're not sure how she knew it was for the grill and that you put it on your arm.  It's amazing the things they observe and pick up without being taught.
We took this opportunity to get some pictures with daddy by the grill...
Back inside again, Daddy found the other glove so Anna could have both.
Putting it on.
The kitty bowls must be hot...you need a glove to touch them.
Blowing kisses to daddy.
She loves to be lifted up to pull the cords on the fan.
Upsidedown.
Looking up...
Ready to FLY!
Outside to grill some more...
Anna doesn't say a whole lot yet, but one thing she does say often is "up."  Here she is telling Daddy UP!

And a picture where we tried to get a good view of her teeth...she has two bottom molars in now and of course all the front ones.  She's got a mouthful!
Hugs for Mom.

  1. I love reading your blogs about Anna because it gives me something to look forward to and also reassures me that Kalle is "normal" and all babies develop differently. I am glad to hear that even though Anna seems to have done all the developmental milestones before every other baby I know, she is not saying a whole lot. I started to worry the other day when someone asked why Kallie isn't talking yet, and I figured she wasn't necessarily supposed to, but that raised some questions in my mind. Next time we are in MN we will have to get all 3 kiddos together.
