This was a great first weekend of summer. Despite not being the greatest weather, it's the best feeling to know that on Sunday night, you don't have to go to work the next day and you can stay home with your little peanut in your jammies if you wanted to! Too bad not all of us have this luxury, but the mommy in our house does! While we aren't going to stay home in our jammies tomorrow and do nothing, we are going to have a fabulous playdate with Brecken! Way better than lounging in jammies! Our goal this summer is to avoid lounging...unless it's by the pool outside. We are going to stay busy, play with lots of friends, do lots of fun activities and I'm sure we'll do our fair share of lounging :-)
So this week is the start of our busy, fun summer schedule. As previously outlined, we have scheduled some playdates! Tomorrow is with Brecken, Tuesday is with Sandra and the kids at daycare, Wednesday is with Oliver, Thursday is still open, and Friday is with Nathan, and Saturday is with Grandma and Grandpa F! Wow, what a fun-filled week! Welcome summer! I'm also noticing that Anna has many boyfriends...we really need to get this gal some girlfriends!
Anyway, on to our weekend....
Friday night friends, Lindsay and Andy came up before they head to Ireland for vacation! We were a little jealous, but we were mostly just THRILLED to get to spend some time with them on Friday night and Saturday morning. We had a great evening...Mommy and Daddy stayed up way too late and Anna woke all of us way too early in the morning. But because she got us up early, we were able to take a walk downtown to the farmer's market and discovered a great new shop that opened up...very cool shop selling local vendor's crafts. Very cool. Anyway, after that we set off to take Lindsay and Andy to the airport and wish them safe travels.
Today we did a little shopping while Daddy went bowling and then Anna helped Mommy plant her flowers in her planters finally. Sad story to this...Anna got me some pansy's for Mother's Day a few weeks back...we never got around to planting them and they got left outside in the really hot sun we had for a few days and they basically baked and died. I still feel bad about killing the first plants she gave me for Mother's Day, but Saturday we went to the store and bought some new ones, she helped me pick them out and they are beautiful!
On to the pictures...
This is from Friday morning. This is why we love our home's location.
We get lots of wildlife...you never know who might be passing through the yard.
Daddy and Anna ready to plant flowers.
This one first Mom!
Smell them Anna!
Pretty.
Daddy's attempt at a portrait of him and his baby girl. When I see them like this in pictures I really do see how much she looks like him.
Checking out the dirt...
Diving right in!
It's funny to dig in the dirt!
Yay!
Keep the dirt inside the box, Anna.
Planting the first one. It's Anna's favorite one, pink.
The cup from the flower....
Perhaps I should drink from it...
Resting for a bit while Mommy does the front boxes...
Time to play in the car.
What's Mommy doing out there still?
Better make sure they are good and watered.
Our final product.
Side note: Our yard is a mess. We need professional landscaping help or a LOT of time. These boxes look so cute with the flowers in them, I wish the rest of the yard would be the same. Part of my summer goal/project is to work on the yard. I am not a professional landscaper, nor do I really like anything that has to do with landscaping, other than saying what I want it to look like. But everyone keeps saying that we just need to do the yard little by little and eventually we'll love it. It's so overwhelming though. So many things we want to do/change. So I'm going to take everyone's advice and start small. I am going to attempt to dig up all the rock in the front yard beds and replace it with mulch. During this process I will trim down the hostas and maybe plant some other things in there. I am also going to edge it and make it look more finished. We'll start there. We'll see how it goes. I think I can do that much on my own. We'll see. I feel the motivation right now, but it's 9:00 at night and I know I won't be going outside to do it right now. But I am going to put that out here on the blog, so I can feel more committed. It will probably take more than a day, but I want a pretty yard and I think I just need to start working on it. Even if I'm scared to death of the snakes that I might find...
Ok, back to the last of the pictures...
Today after the flower planting, Anna took a bath and then we went downstairs and she was helping fold laundry. She's really a great helper. She loves to "shake" the clothes like mommy does before she folds them. The only problem is, Anna doesn't fold them. She just shakes all the clothes, including those that have already been shaken and folded.
I know it's very cliche sounding, but she grows and learns and amazes us more every day. She's so smart and funny. I am so excited for the fun stuff we're going to do this summer!
B and I can't wait for our play date tomorrow.... And for all of the fun play dates we'll have this summer!! Have you guys been to Underwater World at the Mall of America?? We might have to add that to our schedules in the upcoming weeks :)
