The First Week

We have all survived our first week back at school and daycare.  The girls both had an outstanding week at their new school.  Anna loves her new teacher and is working hard to remember her new friends' names.  Yesterday they had a water day and she was so excited to tell me all about it when I picked her up.

Pick up.  Now that has been an adventure.  I learned on the second day that there are rules for pick up.  Rules created by Anna.  I learned that I am supposed to pick up Anna first from her room so she can come with me to get Claire from her room.  I learned the hard way, but I learned...

On the second day I got there a few minutes early, swiped the card and saw that Anna was still having snack.  Rather than interrupt her snack I decided to go gather Claire and her bottles and we'd come back for Anna.  When we got back to Anna's room and she saw us, the lip came out and the tears started immediately.  "But I wanted to get Claire!"  I felt terrible.  I didn't have any idea that she would want to get Claire, and it was virtually impossible to calm her down or fix the problem.  She was very upset with me for not picking her up first (like I had the day before) so after many tears and concerned teachers coming out of their rooms to see what horrible thing had happened to this child, I finally got her calmed down enough to get out the door and back home where we discussed our future game plan.

My instructions:  "First you pick me up mom.  Then we'll get Claire together and you can put her empty bottles in my bag."

Needless to say on day three, I followed my instructions.  And I will follow them every day from here on out.  My girl has a need for routine and consistency.  Since I had done it that way on the first day, I should have known that the second day should be NO different!

Even though it was quite a scene, and always a struggle to have an upset 3 year old, I was filled with happiness at the love that Anna has for her little sister Claire.

Wednesday night at supper, Anna asked if she could sit by Claire.  She spent much of her supper time talking to her in a very cute baby talk voice with the phrases that I apparently use too often when talking to Claire.  She loves her and makes Claire smile.

We are all looking forward to a nice long weekend before school starts officially for me.  We are excited to spend some time with family this weekend and help as Aunt Amy, Uncle Jason and Cousin Will prep their newly purchased home for the big move in day!

A huge sigh of relief for us knowing our new school/daycare is a wonderful place and the girls will be very happy there.
