Hello Fall!

The cool, crisp air is here.  In fact, it's less cool and crisp and more down right chilly!  The past few days the high has been around 50 or less.  We weren't quite ready for these cold temperatures, but we're embracing them and all that fall has to offer.  We've been working on a few projects around the house as we are really settling in and making decisions on how we want things.

First up, the 1 hour fire pit!  Previously, there was a fire bowl (that was rather sad looking) with some blocks stacked dangerously around it to form a circular "fire pit."  It wasn't much to write home about, but it did burn stuff.  We decided though, that it needed a little face lift, so we came up with this:

It was kind of a last minute decision to even do it.  We needed to spend $10 at Menard's to get the items that were free with rebate...so we decided to get the blocks to do a fire pit.  It was a bit more than the $10 we needed, but it was worth it.  Brian got the awesome job of hauling all the bricks to the back yard and then he pulled out some of the existing patio blocks to create a drain, secured the bricks to one another and the patio, filled in with some rock and a fire pit was born!  We've already had a few fires in it and it's wonderful.  It's a great way to enjoy a cool fall evening.

Another project on the list was making Adirondack chairs.  We are in need of some great chairs to go around our fire pit, so Brian decided to build some.
He built these last weekend and they are great!  Very comfortable and will be perfect for relaxing by the fire...except that I really like them on the front porch (although here you can see how badly we need to refinish the front porch--give us time, it's only been a few months) so I guess he's going to have to make at least another pair!

And of course, what is fall without pumpkins?!  We went this morning and got our first pair of pumpkins of 2012.  Big sister picked them out, one for her and one for Claire.  She decided she wanted to decorate them this year, so we got out the paints and she went to work.

Anna and her pumpkin.

Claire played on the floor for a while when Anna was painting....

But she was concerned Anna needed help, so she got to watch too.

She's a great supervisor!

Anna was very focused on her pumpkin; so was Claire.

Here is Claire with her pumpkin.

And here is what Anna did to decorate Claire's pumpkin.

Claire looks concerned or surprised or excited....not sure which.

Good decorating Anna!

Tomorrow we'll finish up the pumpkins with names and maybe add faces...we'll see if the large amounts of paint are dry by then!

Tomorrow we have another nice day at home.  Brian is currently building a wall in the garage to separate his shop from the car side of the garage.  He has much of the framing up and has been working on it all afternoon.  It will be wonderful once his shop area is done so he can start more projects he's been wanting to work on and our cars and anything else in the garage won't get covered in sawdust!

Perhaps we'll have more pictures of our adventures from the weekend tomorrow :)
