Baby It's Cold Outside...

A few thoughts floating in my head...

The title of the blog makes me laugh because Anna has been singing that line of the song regularly since we started listening to Christmas music.  This year she learned lot of new songs from our frequent Christmas station listening and has been caught humming them frequently.  Love that she embraces Christmas music, decorating, and celebrating like her Mama!

The title of the blog also speaks to the day today.  It's freezing!  In fact, it's supposed to be so cold tomorrow that the governor of our state cancelled school for the entire state on Friday at 10:30 am.  That's some major confidence in the meteorologists; but as a teacher, I'm okay with it! So the girls and I get a snow day tomorrow, minus the snow.  We will not be building snowmen tomorrow, maybe baking cookies or cuddling under blankets by the fire.  The predictions are for temperatures that feel like -50 to -60 with the wind and cold.  That's cold.  I think at some point they should stop measuring the temperature and just say, don't go out there, it's too cold for anyone to go outside.  That's what tomorrow is going to be.  Cold.  'Brrrr' as Claire would say.

Below are a couple of pictures from a snow fall earlier this winter.  Anna was attempting to roll snow balls, and she didn't do too bad at all!

Claire got cold fast and wanted to go in, but not before I caught this cute picture of her in that adorable hat that both girls have worn.

Today was a productive day.  I kind of like that it's too cold to go anywhere; we've been getting things done.  Despite our great love of Christmas it was time to put away the decor.  Our living room just doubled in size now that the tree and decor and toys have finally been put back in their homes.  We've been doing that deep cleaning that feels so good after the holidays and with the start of a new year.

We cuddled under the blankets and watched the Wizard of Oz.  I love that movie, and I love that Anna now loves the movie too.   I wasn't sure if we were ready for it or not; I was unsure of how she would handle the witch and flying monkeys.  But as I suspected, big sister is not easily frightened, and we've read the Wizard of Oz book twice now, so she's into the story and knew there was a movie that went with it.  In fact, she was a bit annoyed that the movie doesn't match the book completely.  She also has read The Witches by Roald Dahl, so she finds witches fascinating and knows how to identify them and what to do if she encounters one :)

Tomorrow, perhaps Oz will be on the docket again, or Nemo or Charolette's Web.  Lots of good ones to choose from and lots of warm blankets to cuddle in.  Bring on the cold!
