This was the big weekend! Our first night away from Anna in her first 13.5 months of life. It was a wonderful weekend for all involved and only a few tears were shed...by mommy! Friday was our 5 year anniversary, so Brian's parents came up to stay with Anna so we could have a night out.
We had a wonderful time, great dinner, entertainment, and relaxation. We were a little lost not buckling the car seat each time we got in or out of the car; and we weren't sure what to do when we both got to order our own food and didn't have to share it, unless we wanted to, and we didn't have to order it with a little person in mind. It was a new/old freedom we haven't had for a while...and it was bittersweet.
We headed out on Saturday about 10 AM and had a nice day of shopping, movie going (it had been three years since we went to a theater for a movie) and dinner.
Before we left, we enjoyed breakfast and some morning time fun with Anna:
Wearing one of grandma's curlers.
Reading with Mommy.
Being chased by Daddy.
After Mommy and Daddy headed out, Anna got right to work showing Grandma and Grandpa all the cool things to play with...and they documented their weekend well so we could enjoy it!
"Grandma, this is where the bowls go..."
"Come play in my room!"
Reading about Iowa State with Grandpa.
Putting the shapes on with grandpa.
Having so much fun with the shape sorter...
She even tried to put them on her toes!
Reading her new book Grandma and Grandpa brought with them.
And showing Grandpa one of her favorite books.
Can you tell Anna loves to read books?!
Trying out the puzzle with grandma.
Anna even got grandma to try out her tunnel!
Sitting in the big chair.
On grandma's shoulders!
They look like they are trying to figure out how it works...
Hmm...not sure if that is right or not....
Funny face! Look at all those teeth. (*Side note: She has two bottoms molars through, one top one working on coming through, one top eye-tooth poking through and the two bottom eye-teeth peeking out as well! She's going to have a mouth-full by August!)
Peek-a-boo!
Anna loves Mexican food, so Grandma and Grandpa took her to a Mexican restaurant for supper. She had a soft taco and black beans. Anna loves beans. She would eat them for every meal if you let her. It was fun to go out to eat with Grandma and Grandpa!
An after-dinner walk.
Getting ready for the day on Sunday. Anna loves playing with her bows and putting them in her hair. She's a girly girl!
This is a good one!
A bow for Bailey!
Putting on her lipstick before Mom and Dad get home.
She got this purse for her birthday from Grandma and Grandpa and she has just recently really gotten into playing with it. It talks and sings when you open and close it and she loves the songs and the fun stuff that goes in it....including her "lipstick."
Learning her ABC's....upside-down.
Showing off her baby picture. We actually moved a few framed pictures of Anna down onto the coffee table where she can reach them, because she is really into looking at them and holding them and showing you the pictures. She does pretty well with them and has only dropped them a few times.
Mommy's home! So we better read another book!
As I said, we had a wonderful time, and as you can tell from the pictures, Anna had a wonderful time too! It was so relaxing to go out and enjoy some couple time, and know Anna was so well-cared for.
We were very excited to be home...it was just about exactly 24 hours that we were gone, and for our first time, we thought that was long enough. It's crazy how attached we are...that sounds kind of strange, because obviously we love her very much, but I didn't realize how hard it would be to not be with her overnight. I missed my little peanut. I was glad to hug her and rock her to sleep tonight!
